According to the China Tourism Academy, H1N1 is the key factor that has a larger influence on China tourism industry than the financial crisis this year. However, the flu is expected to harm the industry less than SARS in 2003.

Research shows that H1N1 leads to the decline of reception of travel agencies. Among which, some have an decrease of over 90%.

Statistics illustrate that the first half of 2009, domestic tourists reached a number of 1 billion, 10% of the increase; domestic tourism  had a revenue of RMB 500 billion. On the other hand, the number of outbound tourists climbed to a figure of 22.50 million, with a jump of 1%; the sum of tourists who entered China was 62 million, a 5% drop compared to the first half of last year. The tourism industry had a $ 18 billion foreign exchange income during this period, which was a 11% decline.

[世华财讯]中国旅游研究院报告指出，09年上半年，金融危机对旅游经济运行的影响总体上没有超出预期，但是突如其来的甲型H1N1流感使旅游业遭受很大冲击。

据中新社7月14日报道，中国旅游研究院预测，09年下半年金融危机仍将会对中国旅游经济运行造成一定影响，但此种影响相对趋于缓和。而甲型H1N1流感将成为影响中国旅游经济发展全局的关键因素，预估其对旅游经济的冲击将小于2003年的“非典”。

中国旅游研究院最新发布《2009年上半年旅游经济分析与下半年发展预测》称，中国旅游经济第三季度的形势将差于第二季度。下半年，旅游市场可能会继续呈现 “总量增长，两升一降”的态势，如果甲型H1N1流感能得到有效控制，在第四季度，中国旅游经济将有一波上升行情，旅游企业经营绩效可望出现反弹。

报告指出，第二季度，甲型H1N1流感的爆发不仅影响了以接待入境旅游者为主的企业，而且对经营出境旅游业务的企业特别是旅行社也造成了重创，部分旅行社的组团人数降幅超过九成，大多数旅游企业的经营状况较一季度有所下降。

统计数字显示，09年上半年国内旅游人数达10亿人次，增长一成；国内旅游收入5,000亿元，增长一成。出境旅游人数2,250万人次，同比增长1%。入境旅游人次为6,200万，同比下降5%，旅游外汇收入180亿美元，同比下降一成一。
